Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin has been gaining attention in the cryptocurrency community lately for some high-profile trades he has made. His Ethereum address showed increased activity, leading to speculation and discussion among observers. Earlier today, Buterin’s wallet executed a significant transaction, transferring 3,000 ETH, worth approximately $8.05 million, to a multi-signature wallet.
According to cryptocurrency monitoring platform Lookonchain, the transaction may indicate a donation, although interpretations vary.
Significant transfer and wallet activity
The transaction, recorded at 12:39:23 AM UTC, attracted attention after Lookonchain reported it as a possible donation. However, a prominent voice has emerged pointing out that the three signatories of the receiving wallet all have ties to Buterin, suggesting this may have been an internal reallocation rather than an external donation.
Following this transaction, the receiving wallet now holds 3,000 ETH, which is worth $7,907,204 based on Ethereum’s current price of $2,635 per ETH. The wallet also contained a small amount of other tokens valued at $118.02.
Notably, Buterin’s address continued to be active, subsequently transferring another 199.9 ETH, worth approximately $521,469.37, to another address.
Background of historical transfer
Equally important, on August 5, a wallet called “Vb 3” transferred 3,000 ETH (about $7 million) to Buterin’s wallet. At the time, Buterin held 245,223 ETH, which equals $571.72 million.
These recent transactions follow a pattern of a series of large Ethereum transfers, with wallet “Vb 3” transferring 1,001 ETH 184 days ago and 6,000 ETH 571 days ago. The transactions are all linked to Buterin’s address, suggesting a series of strategically timed transfers.
Buterin’s recent token sale
In another development, Buterin recently conducted a notable Neiro token sale. His wallet sold 17.15 billion Neiro for 44.53 ETH (about $112,448) on Uniswap V2. The sale initially triggered a drop in Neiro’s value, although the market quickly rebounded, increasing by 15%.
The Neiro team responded publicly to the sale, suggesting Buterin consider donating some of the proceeds to a dog shelter. They clarified that the allocation of Neiro tokens to Buterin was not an endorsement, but a decision made by the original developer after he left the project.
