Cardano Consensus Body reveals three necessary conditions for a big fork

Cardano’s Stake with Pride focuses on three conditions that are crucial for the Cardano Chang hard fork to occur.
The Cardano blockchain is about to undergo one of its most significant upgrades to date, the Chang hard fork. As discussions about the update have dominated headlines, Cardano representative Stake with Pride recently outlined three key conditions needed for this upgrade to happen.
Necessary conditions for the Chang hard fork
The first condition is that 70%’s Cardano token pool operators need to upgrade to version 9.1 of their nodes. This release is pivotal as it integrates key features required for the hard fork.
The upgrade aims to bring about the Voltaire phase, transforming Cardano into a fully decentralized governance model. As of now, version 9.1 of the node is still awaiting release. The Voltaire era will focus on community-led governance, where ADA holders can vote on proposals that shape the future of the network.
The second requirement involves the creation of a replacement key by seven ICC (Interoperability and Communications Council) committees. These new keys will replace the genesis keys originally assigned to Cardano’s founding entities such as IOHK, Emurgo, and the Cardano Foundation.
Destroying the genesis key is an important step towards decentralization because it removes central control and distributes governance power to the community.
The last condition is that centralized exchanges (CEXes) and ecosystem services need to upgrade their ancillary services to be compatible with the new node version.
This ensures seamless integration and functionality across all Cardano-enabled platforms, maintaining the stability and security of the network during and after the hard fork. Upgrades of exchanges and other services are crucial to avoid any disruptions in ADA trading and staking operations during the transition period.
Cardano is now ready for a fork
Meanwhile, in the latest update, Cardano recently welcomed Node 9.0. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson took note of the development, noting that the next step is for token pool operators to test and update their systems.
Hoskinson expressed optimism about the upcoming upgrade. He stressed that the Chang hard fork will introduce the most advanced blockchain governance system to date.
This includes functions such as splitting votes, withdrawing funds, and establishing a constitutional committee. These improvements are designed to transform Cardano into a self-sufficient network, reducing its reliance on IOHK and handing control over to the wider community.
The implementation of CIP-1694 is another key aspect of this upgrade. This Cardano Improvement Proposal will change the on-chain governance structure, allowing ADA holders to have a direct say on protocol changes and the spending of funds.
The community will be able to submit and vote on proposals, which will be a major shift in the way Cardano is governed.
